The fresh, new Turing Scheme for the United Kingdom is an amazing opportunity for students/participants from the UK to do an internship in exciting destinations. For example, Australia - the remote and attractive continent that’s probably on everybody’s bucket list of places to visit! It’s not the typical choice of destinations for an internship but it’s surely one of the coolest.
It’s also one of the most expensive destinations – that is where the Turing Scheme programme can help you fund your internship. Australia will look great on your CV because it’s somewhere extraordinary – not everyone goes on a journey that’s so far away for a truly unique internship experience! Australia is one of the most developed countries in the world, and one of the most diverse countries too with about a third of the population being immigrants. Additionally, it’s a friendly and welcoming country. It’s possible that you’ve always dreamt about learning to surf. Then Australia would be a super choice for you – it has many of the best surfing beaches and opportunities in the world! Let’s take a look at some popular and attractive cities in Australia.
Sydney
Sydney is the largest city in Australia and the capital of New South Wales. It is located on the East coast. Sydney is one of the most international cities in the world in terms of immigrants and foreign students that are attracted to it. It’s not only for the high level of education but also because of the pleasant weather, fantastic beaches, parks, a busy night life, etc. You could call Sydney a cosmopolitan melting pot. You won’t feel alone during your Turing Scheme mobility, that’s for sure. Sydney is a comfortable city and one of the safest in the world but also the most expensive destination in Australia and very expensive compared to other destinations.
Sydney’s economy is very strong, especially in finance, manufacturing, and tourism with a great concentration of foreign banks and multinational corporations. From a tourist’s point of view, Sydney is also very interesting – it’s one of the richest regions in Australia in terms of Aboriginal archaeological sites. Worth seeing are the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The famous Blue Mountains are also well known to international visitors.
Melbourne
Melbourne is the second biggest city in Australia and the capital of Victoria. It’s located in the South-Eastern part of mainland Australia, south of Sydney. One might say that Melbourne is Australia’s cultural capital and a centre of music, theatre, sport, art, film, literature, etc. Melbourne has an abundance of public parks and gardens with lots of plants including rare species. It’s a very pleasant city for your Turing Scheme mobility. What also makes it a comfortable city is its bicycle sharing system along with a network of marked cycling lanes.
Some of the most visited attractions of Melbourne are Queen Victoria Market (one of the largest open-air markets), Crown Casino, Southbank, Melbourne Zoo, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Aquarium, amongst others. The universities of Melbourne are increasingly popular among international students.
Melbourne has a highly diversified economy with strength in finance, manufacturing, research, IT, education, logistics, transportation, and tourism. You will surely find the right company for your Turing Scheme internship!
Brisbane
Brisbane is the third most popular city in Australia and the capital Queensland. It is also a diverse city with more than a third of its population being of foreign heritage.
