Have you ever wondered what the other side of the world is like? Do you long for far-flung places with exotic animals, wild countryside and powdery beaches with deep, blue sea and glistening sunshine? Australia could be calling you and guess what – it’s an option for students and other people in higher education and beyond to experience! The UK’s work placement scheme, The Turing Scheme offers even more incredible destinations than Erasmus+ (the European equivalent) and Australia is one of the most popular options – favoured by so many student.
Sports Science Trips to Australia
Abby is one of those students. Currently, Abby is studying Sport Sciences at the UK’s Bishop Burton College which specialises in sport. She embarked on a Turing Scheme adventure for a period of time, with Australia as her preferred destination. After applying and drawing up an excellent application form, Abby went through a couple of rounds of interviews and was selected with 9 other students to travel to Australia.
Put Your Knowledge into Practice
While in Australia, apart from enjoying leisure time, lots of beach activities and meeting the locals, Abby spent a lot of time learning more about sport, putting her knowledge into practice and doing physical training too.
Learn New Life Skills
Abby did a lifesaving course, so she now knows how to spot if someone is in danger swimming in a pool or the sea – or surfing on the waves and how to rescue and resuscitate someone if necessary. She also did tennis coaching which has helped her become a better player and is something she can continue to do whenever she wants to. Furthermore, Abby spent time working in a gym, understanding how it works, how to market a gym and how to help people wanting to improve their levels of fitness use the equipment and get the most out of their training. You can read more about gym training in one of our other blogs here.
An Opportunity Not to be Missed!
If you were to ask Abby what she thought of her time spent in Oz, she would tell you that if you get the opportunity to do something like Erasmus+ or the Turing Scheme, then grab it because it’s a once in a lifetime experience that you’ll look back on fondly. Plus, what you learn while on your mobility will be extremely useful for you in future.
