Today, we’ll look at the Needs Analysis section of your application for the EU’s Erasmus+ mobility scheme or the UK’s equivalent, The Turing Scheme.

So, firstly, what does a strong Needs Analysis look like?

Who Are You Sending on an Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme Mobility?

Your “Needs” are exactly that – what does your school, organisation, college or other and the participants needs from their project? It’s not complicated because when you begin writing your proposal, doubtless you’re already considering which students will take part in the project. Next, it’s about the criteria that your school or organisation has set out to select the students you want to send on Erasmus+ or The Turing Scheme.

How to Depict Your Criteria

By criteria we mean the following (and this is not an exhaustive list) – it best relates to how you relates to how you describe your criteria:

  • Do you want to involve students with disabilities?
  • Do you want to involve students from disadvantaged backgrounds?
  • Do you have a specific cultural organisational/school approach you want to include?

To do this section properly, keep a lot of areas in mind that you wish to cover.

One important aspect to remember is to make clear what you’re hoping to fulfil and achieve. As an example, if your school doesn’t focus on media or technology, make it clear that your destination is an area where there are experts in media or technology. Present it in such a way that the evaluators are clear on the reason why you’ve chosen your preferred destination. Justify your reasons why you should be given funding for travel.

Don’t Make Mistakes!

However – be clear, don’t make mistakes! For example, if you want your students to carry out a project on maritime trade, choose the right destination. Don’t select Austria for example – as it’s a landlocked country. Greece, however, is a great destination for maritime trade! Choose a place that has specific expertise in the field you want to cover.

Some Final Words

As a few final words, look at what areas your students are focused on and what your teachers are focused on. Ask yourself, where would they like to see improvement? What do they want to learn? What are the needs of your school or organisation? Then, look at which countries can offer exactly what you need.
