Since 2014, the European Union has had a brilliant programme offering the opportunity to complete a supported work placement abroad. This is already well-known by Europeans and is called the Erasmus+ programme. With Britain's exit from the European Union, there is now a new programme for its residents, called the Turing Scheme. You can find out what unique opportunities these two programmes offer in our blog: Erasmus+ vs. Turing.
A key decision for an Erasmus+ or Turing internship is the destination. In our latest blog series, different countries are highlighted and we list exciting cities for a possible Erasmus+ or Turing stay. The first blog in this series is about Germany and its most popular destinations for an Erasmus+ or Turing internship.
In Berlin, it is an advantage to speak German for an Erasmus+ or Turing internship but English is spoken and acceptable in many companies. Another important point in deciding on your destination is financing. Berlin is affordable. The usual accommodation for an Erasmus+ or Turing project in Berlin is apartments, or hotels. Public transport is well-developed and offers the opportunity to get from one end of the city to the other end very quickly.
Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany with a population of just under 2 million people. Hamburg is an important industrial location and ideally suited for an Erasmus+ or Turing project. The Portof Hamburg, the airport and the railway station are among the largest logistics locations in Germany. For the technical and economic sectors, Hamburg is an excellent destination to undertake an Erasmus+ or Turing internship. After work, the many restaurants or bars on the water – in the Hafen or on various beaches – offer plenty of opportunities to relax. In fact, there’s a real holiday feeling to Frankfurt!
The next destination we introduce to you for an Erasmus+ internship or Turing internship will be Austria and its most popular cities. Look out for that piece on our blog!
