What To Do During Your Summer Break

Written by Jacqueline Haslinger | June 30, 2021

Summer has finally arrived, and the summer break is almost here so no doubt you’re wondering what you should do with all your newly-acquired free time! We have some great ideas for you to make the most out of your summer break this year. There’s plenty of good ideas to stop you from being bored, even though there are restrictions in place this year. It’s still possible to make 2021 the best summer of your life!

Travel As Much as Possible

Summertime is the most popular time to take a vacation, the weather is generally amazing and if you choose a destination with water (such as the sea and the lakes) you can easily refresh yourself when the temperature is very hot! If you’re a city traveller, there’s a good chance that the destination you want to visit won’t be as crowded with tourists because most people take to the beach. Quite a few countries have re-opened their borders again so it’s a good chance to start thinking about where you could go for a really memorable summer vacation. Maybe we can help you find the perfect destination for your next Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme project?

Learn Something New

You have several weeks with literally no obligation to do anything (or only little). So it’s a good idea to utilise your free time and learn something completely new. For example, learning a new language – perhaps with regards to your future Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme mobility? Or you could acquire additional skills in a field that interests you –keep in mind your future Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme project.

Improve Your Skills

Why not use your free time to improve your existing skills? Take some classes and upgrade on what you already know, you could also use the Internet to upskill as there’s plenty of valuable information out there. Whether you read articles on a certain, interesting topic or you watch some video tutorials to better yourself, it will definitely help to enhance your CV.

Do an Internship at Home or Abroad?

Some students never get tired and also need to be busy during their summer break. It could be that they are saving money for a certain acquisition and so they use the time to do an internship in the summer. You can even apply for a summer job abroad, because many companies are looking for extra help over the holiday season when many of their employees are away. Use your free time to gain valuable work experience no matter if it is in your home country or abroad, you will surely benefit from it.

Relax

After a stressful year full of obstacles, new guidelines, and weeks of distance learning, it is your time now to kick back and relax. Sleep in, have late breakfast and just do whatever makes you happy while living every day spontaneously without any obligations. Whether you define relaxation by laying in the sun, sunbathing or by reading a good book or even trying something adventurous, it’s up to you. What counts now is that you recover fully from your academic year in order to be able to enjoy a fresh start in the autumn.

Dream Of Your Next Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme Project

If your school is planning an Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme project during the next school period, you can start preparing for your Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme adventure. Research about the destination of your Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme mobility. If it is a destination where English is not the main language, you could begin learning the basics. You can also use the time to think about your personal objectives, what do you want to learn or improve during the mobility? Are there any skills you want to improve or learn before starting your Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme project?

Have Fun with Your Friends

You are young, wild, and free! Use the summer break to make meaningful experiences and create memories for a lifetime. Even simple things can bring you so much joy and happiness – sitting around a campfire, hiking or just a BBQ-evening with your friends. Enjoying time with your friends is exactly what you deserve after a hectic school year. Share your favourite stories with your friends thinking of the past year which was so exceptional in many ways.

Enjoy Meaningful Time with Your Family

If this pandemic has showed us one thing – it is to enjoy time with your family. Especially the older generation who had to be protected by this evil virus. You should now take the chance and go and spend time with your grandparents. Lots of family celebrations had to be cancelled and perhaps you haven’t been able to talk to some family members in a while. Use the summer break to visit or call up some relatives that you haven’t seen or spoken to for a while.

Of course there is much more to do during your summer break depending on your personal preferences. Feel free to drop a comment below and tell us what you are looking forward to doing this summer.
