Going abroad on an Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme placement is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and there’s a lot to plan! One of the most important aspects is your accommodation and there are various options to choose from, depending on your budget, age and the type of person you are. For example, if you’re a very sociable person, you might be better off staying in shared accommodation, such as a dorm or a student apartment. Find out about what’s available by reading on.

  • Hostel Accommodation

One of the most popular types of accommodation is a hostel but before you opt for this type, we’d recommend researching the most highly rated hostels available in your host city. You need to feel safe and secure – and while a hostel offers lots of opportunities to meet other likeminded people, they do have some downsides. If you’re in Malta, don’t forget the TravelEdventures’ hostel, it’s our very own and is clean, well-equipped and as safe as possible.

  • Hotel

Hotels are a good choice if you have a bigger budget as they tend to be more expensive, but they can be lonely (and costly). There aren’t any “common” areas apart from perhaps a bar and sitting area, so if you want to meet new people you might not be suited to this type of accommodation. Plus, when you’re back “home”, you’ll only have your own bedroom to retreat to (and all meals will need to be eaten at the hotel or out at restaurants).

  • Host Family

Great for young students, a host family provides a safe, secure base for you. You’ll get to meet other teens and live with a family, so you’ll learn the language quickly. All meals are prepared for you, and you have your own bedroom.

  • Shared Apartments

Most cities offer shared apartments to rent, these range in price depending on your city but they’re a good option if you want some independence, don’t want to live alone and you have a budget to stick to.

When you travel with TravelEdventures, we’ll take into account the duration of your stay, the age of students and we also vet all accommodation for quality too. For example, some countries are better suited to host families because they’re friendly, offer greater security and everything’s kept nice and clean, plus the family are on-hand to advise the person staying with them. That’s why they’re called Host Families!

In some locations, a host family isn’t the best option because they’re not as readily available as they are in other cities – so we will advise other suitable accommodation if we feel this is the case. Our team will always guide you through what the best type of accommodation will be depending on your needs, so why not get in touch here to discuss your Erasmus+ or Turing Scheme trip? We’ll do all the hard work for you!
