Schools, colleges and higher education providers apply for Turing Scheme funding for projects on behalf of their pupils, students and learners in order to enable them to embark on an international work experience.
One thing that the Turing Scheme fails to specify, is that students cannot be charged fees to take part on an international work experience.
What does that mean for you? It means that universities must conclude agreements for a fee-waiver to avoid students having to pay tuition and other fees – those fees could potentially be very high in some countries!
Are you wondering how a student from outside the UK could get involved? Students cannot apply directly for funding under The Turing Scheme themselves, and those studying outside the UK at a non-UK institution are ineligible.
The Turing Scheme opens for applications for 2022-23 academic year, but what happens after applying for The Turing scheme funding?
Once the funding deadline has passed, applicants receive an acknowledgement email from the delivery partner. If you’ve applied but you haven’t received a response email in your inbox within four weeks of the deadline, then make sure you contact our team to check your application has been received successfully.
Applications then go into an assessment process, where they are checked against the criteria set out in the programme guide. Bids first go under a formal eligibility and exclusion check, which verifies that the project respects The Turing Scheme rules. Next, applications are assessed on how well the project reflects the key principles of The Turing Scheme, these include:
As part of the assessment process, applications are also checked in terms of whether organisations are sufficiently financially capable to receive funding for their project.
During the checks, organisations may be asked to submit documentation such as annual reports or financial statements.
At the final step of the assessment process, a Project Assessment Board will determine the final list of projects per sector that will receive Turing Scheme funding. This board consists of representatives from the Department for Education and devolved administrations.
Application results will be issued to applicants from all sectors between July and August 2021 this is in the past. If you receive an email from your delivery partner that notifies you that your bid has been successful, the contracting process will commence.
Payments will be made to successful organisations at the anticipated points of expenditure as set out as part of the application process.
Don’t forget you can always contact your delivery partner for any queries following application. We wish you good luck with your Turing Scheme application!
