The Turing Scheme is the UK’s Erasmus+ equivalent work and study abroad programme enabling UK students to experience a placement outside of their home country. It is still relatively new and replaces Erasmus+.
A Post-Brexit Scheme for UK Students
Prior to Brexit, the UK took part in Erasmus+ but after the UK left the European Union, the country set up its own scheme, named after mathematician and WW2 code-breaker, Alan Turing.
Even More Exciting Destinations!
While The Turing Scheme is very similar to Erasmus+, it has a wider breadth of choice in terms of countries – taking its participants all over Europe and much further, to the Americas, Australia and even the Caribbean. This is very exciting because now UK educational institutions harnessing The Turing Scheme for their students can look at destinations further away than before. It’s an international programme rather than just European. If you’re a UK-based student (or you live in a country that is part of the British Commonwealth) you now have greater access to different countries. Erasmus+ is solely a European scheme which means that European educational institutions (schools, colleges, universities and other) are restricted to experiences just in Europe. Perhaps that will change in the future but for now, if you’re a UK student, you have this distinct advantage!
This also means new partnerships, new organisations and new connections too. So what are the most popular and common Turing Scheme projects available? Let’s dive in and find out!
What Are Typical Turing Scheme Projects?
Typical projects tend to be vocational learners sent abroad to do any internship or work experience.
In terms of the most popular projects chosen by students participating in The Turing Scheme, they’re often vocational, such as nursing, plumbing, food related, hairdressing, beauty, sport etc., but that’s not to say that there are other possibilities available to students in the UK. There are still multiple professional courses that students in the UK can try abroad – such as marketing, advertising, teaching, medical, accountancy, international law and more.
