The European Student Card first came into being in 2016. An EU-funded project that’s ideal for Erasmus+ students, it’s aim is to give students easy access to relevant services, extensive discounts and activities. Since it’s been introduced, it’s become hugely popular, widely used and accepted across EU as well as in other countries.
When you travel as an Erasmus+ student, you should always take your ESC (European Student Card) with you. This card will give you access to a wealth of opportunities, and immediately verify that you are indeed a European student, no matter where you travel to. There are just so many benefits to take advantage of, both on-campus and off campus and with just one swipe of your card, all your information is visible, so you’re quickly verified and can enjoy those aforementioned discounts, clubs, activities, classes, events and more.
Get Your Card
First, check you’re eligible – if you’re travelling on an Erasmus+, you will be, but there is other criteria too, that could enable you to apply, as follows:
- A study exchange outside of your home country.
- An apprenticeship abroad or VET.
- An Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters.
Other eligibility relates to the following:
- European Solidarity Corps (ESC).
- International undergraduate.
- International post graduate full degree students.
- Mobility programme such as a volunteer.
Be Organised in Advanced
Getting your card organised early, apply before travelling on an Erasmus+ because this means you can use your card while you study abroad without worrying about getting a new card from your receiving university or college.
You’ll also be able to immediately access student services during your study placement abroad – as soon as you arrive, and you’ll hold European Student status. The card is attached to a huge database of students just like you, and when you apply, you’ll get an ESCN (European Student Card Number) assigned to you that identifies and validates you. Every card has an ESC hologram on the front, which shows it is genuine and certified, and there’s a QR code on the front and back as well, useful for scanning to see any updates as and when.
Getting one of these cards gives you the following:
- Amusement park discounts.
- Public transport reduced pricings.
So – our best advice is to apply early and start reaping the benefits! For any questions relating to your Erasmus+ (or Turing Scheme adventure if you’re a British student), get in touch with us here.
