When people think about Erasmus+ mobilities, they often imagine students travelling abroad for internships or exchanges. However, one of the most meaningful aspects of international education is when teachers go back to learning. We’re talking about teacher training abroad, a truly valuable experience!
Over the past few years, at TravelEdventures, we’ve seen more and more schools investing in teacher training courses abroad, not only to improve professional skills, but also to bring fresh energy, new ideas and modern teaching approaches back into their classrooms. An especially valuable example of our teacher training provision occurred recently. The destination was Valencia in Spain and six teachers from a primary school called Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj from Novi Pazar in Serbia, participated in teacher training courses organised by TravelEdventures. The teachers attended two different one-week courses:
Although the topics were different, both courses had the same goal; helping teachers better understand the needs of modern students and today’s classrooms.
Learning Beyond Traditional Classrooms
One thing that makes international teacher training special is that learning doesn’t just happen inside the seminar room. Teachers’ exchange experiences with colleagues from other countries discuss challenges they face in their schools, compare educational systems and discover new methods that can realistically be applied in everyday teaching. For many participants, these exchanges becomes just as valuable as the course itself!
While in Valencia, the teachers from Novi Pazar explored practical tools, interactive workshops and modern educational approaches that they could adapt and take back to their own classrooms in Serbia. Perhaps most importantly, they returned home motivated. That motivation matters more than people sometimes realise.
AI in Education and Understanding the Future of Teaching
Moving onto AI. Artificial Intelligence has become one of the most discussed topics in education today. Many teachers are curious about it. Some feel excited, whereas others feel uncertain or even overwhelmed at the thought of using it in the classroom. That’s normal! The goal of the AI in Education course wasn’t to replace teachers with technology. Rather it was about how AI can support teachers with lesson planning, creating interactive materials and adapting content to different learning styles. Additionally, it provided crucial information on improving creativity in the classroom, reducing administrative workload and encouraging critical thinking among students.
Participants explored different digital tools and discussed both the opportunities and the challenges connected with AI in schools.
An important part of the course was also responsible use of technology. In this module, teachers discussed digital ethics, misinformation, critical evaluation of online content, student safety, and balancing technology with human interaction. After all, education isn’t just about using new tools! It is very much about teaching students how to use those tools responsibly.
For our teachers on the AI course, one of the biggest discoveries was realising that AI doesn’t need to feel intimidating. When used correctly, it can actually help teachers save time and create more engaging lessons.
Mindfulness in Education: Supporting Both Students and Teachers
The second course, Mindfulness in Education, focused on something equally important, emotional wellbeing in schools. Modern classrooms are often fast-paced, demanding and stressful environments for both students and teachers. Concentration difficulties, anxiety, digital overload and lack of motivation have become common challenges across Europe. The mindfulness course introduced practical techniques that help create calmer and healthier learning environments. As part of that course, teachers explored stress management techniques, breathing exercises, emotional awareness, concentration activities, classroom atmosphere improvement and communication and empathy skills. One important message throughout the course was simple and that was that students learn better when they feel safe, calm and supported. The same is true for teachers.
Many participants appreciated that the course was practical rather than overly theoretical. The activities could easily be adapted for different age groups and integrated into everyday school routines. Sometimes even just a few minutes of mindfulness activities during the school day can positively affect students’ focus, communication and behaviour.
Bringing Knowledge Back to the School Community
One of the most valuable aspects of Erasmus+ teacher training is what happens after the mobility ends. The real impact begins when teachers return home. Now, the participants from Novi Pazar are sharing their newly-gained knowledge with colleagues, students and the wider school community. They’re doing this through creating workshops for other teachers, holding presentations during teacher meetings, organising demonstration lessons and introducing new classroom activities. They’re also developing future Erasmus+ ideas and integrating digital and wellbeing approaches into their regular teaching. In this way, the mobility experience benefits not only the participants themselves, but the entire school. This displays exactly how sustainable educational development works; step-by-step, teacher by teacher.
International Cooperation That Continues
One thing we especially value at TravelEdventures is that many collaborations don’t end after one mobility. They continue to grow naturally. The cooperation with Jovan Jovanović Zmaj continues through a new project that we developed together through joint efforts, shared ideas and common educational goals. This is one of the most beautiful aspects of Erasmus+ partnerships and what begins as a course or mobility often turns into long-term cooperation, exchange of experiences, future projects and new friendships. It also importantly results in stronger international connections between schools.
Over time, these relationships create real educational networks that support both teachers and students far beyond a single project activity.
Teacher Training Can Cover Many Different Topics
Today, teacher training courses are becoming increasingly diverse because schools themselves face many new challenges and educational priorities. At TravelEdventures, courses can be organised on a wide variety of topics, depending on the needs and interests of schools and participants. Some of the most requested themes include the following:
The goal is always the same; to provide practical, modern, and inspiring learning experiences that teachers can genuinely use in their everyday work.
Investing in Teachers Means Investing in Students
Sometimes people underestimate how much influence motivated teachers can have on an entire school environment. When teachers discover new methods, gain confidence and feel inspired, students notice it immediately. International teacher training is not simply about travelling abroad, it’s about professional growth, exchanging ideas, building confidence, improving educational quality and creating classrooms that better reflect the realities of modern society. Most importantly, it reminds teachers that learning never truly stops, even for educators themselves. That is exactly why projects like this matter because when teachers grow, entire school communities grow with them.
