The Turing Scheme is a British programme aimed at students and learners wishing to work or study abroad. It is the British equivalent to the EU’s Erasmus+ programme and came into being post Brexit. The major difference between the two programmes is that the British Turing Scheme offers student work placements in Europe and beyond – as far as the United States of America and Australia (as well as countless other international destinations).
This brand-new programme, the Turing Scheme is a truly amazing programme, in many ways, it’s far better than it’s counterpart and is very much where Erasmus+ wants to be in the future. As mentioned, it provides plenty of access to so many more countries than Erasmus+, which is centred on Europe and only offers a very small percentage of trips outside of the continent. With the UK’s Turing Scheme, the whole world is available – and students can even travel to exotic locations such as Cuba, for example.
Established by the UK Department of Education in 2021, it is still fairly new and that’s why schools, colleges and universities trust TravelEdventures to help with applications and securing funding. The application form is also brand-new, so it’s significantly different to the Erasmus+ format. When a college (or other institution) completes it for the first time, it’s not that easy! That’s why using an expert, such as TravelEdventures stands those applying in good stead for getting their applications approved.
We have an excellent process in place for UK schools, colleges and universities (and other institutions). When we partner with a college, we begin by getting to know the type of college it is, and we always begin with a small pilot project that increases every year. Currently, we work with a large group of vocational colleges. The first pilot project consisted of just 30 students for the first year. Then, that project moved up to 120 students for the second year and the third year sees us taking 350 funded students on mobilities abroad.
At that point, the project remains the same and every year, we will take the same amount of 350 students abroad to different countries. By year three, we have funding established for the full amount of 350 students and every year thereafter, the same funding should be acquired easily.
We believe this is the best way of growing a Turing Scheme programme into a sustainable size for every college we work with – after all, it’s no mean feat organising mobilities for such a large amount of students, which is why taking small steps is always best. This is another reason why we’re such a trusted partner for so many schools, colleges and universities. We’re experienced, efficient and excellent at what we do. We also have multiple partnerships in different countries, so we know how to get the very best for students wishing to participate.
