If you are based in Spain and wondering what amount of money you can expect to receive when applying for an Erasmus+ funding for vocational learners (VET and FE), this article will provide a good overview of different funding elements.
Erasmus+ funding consists, in general, of 3 different funding sections (sections 1-3 in this article) for all participants.
The funding for organisational support covers the management of the Erasmus+ project. This includes administrative tasks that need to be fulfilled in order to be able to place students at an internship. The organisational support funding depends on the group size, as an example, for under 100 participants it would amount to € 350 per person, over 100 participants would amount to € 200.
Example A:
Usually, for a first project of a small to medium sized proposal consisting of 80 participants you receive 80 x € 350 = € 28,000 funding for the organisation.
Example B:
If handing a larger application of 200 participants, you will receive € 200 x 100 = € 20,000 as well as € 350 x 100 = € 35,000, a total of € 55,000 for organisational funding.
Travel costs depend on the distance of your Erasmus+ destination from your home. It covers the costs to and from the destination of your Erasmus+ project. This includes flight, bus rides, train rides, etc.
Most common distances/amount granted in Europe as follows:
Example 1:
Travelling to Berlin from Spain you would receive € 360 Erasmus+ travel cost funding.
Example 2:
Travelling to Helsinki from Spain you would receive € 530 Erasmus+ travel cost funding.
As we all know, the living costs in different countries vary. Therefore the funding for living costs depends on the Erasmus+ destination. The destinations that are part of the Erasmus+ programme have been split into one of 3 categories according to the cost of living:
Group 1 = high cost of living
The budget for group 1 destinations (Norway, Denmark, Luxembourg, Iceland, Sweden, Ireland, Finland, Liechtenstein):
Group 2 = medium cost of living
The budget for group 2 destinations (Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Cyprus, Malta, Portugal, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, Malta, Portugal, Spain):
Group 3 = low cost of living
The budget for group 3 destinations (Slovenia, Estonia, Latvia, Croatia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Turkey, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Republic of North Macedonia, Serbia):
Example Erasmus+ Living Cost Calculation for Countries In Group 1:
For a participant staying 30 days in Denmark, Erasmus+ funding for living costs would be calculated as follows:
€ 66 x for the first 14 days = € 924
plus
€ 46 x for an additional 16 days = € 736
€ 924 + € 736 = € 1,660
The Erasmus+ support for living costs in Denmark for 30 days would therefore be: € 1,660.
Example Erasmus+ Living Cost Calculation for Countries In Group 2:
Spain is a popular group 2 destination. For a participant staying 30 days in Spain, Erasmus+ funding for living costs would be calculated as follows:
€ 57 x for the first 14 days = € 798
plus
€ 40 x for an additional 16 days = € 640
€ 798 + € 640 = € 1,438
The Erasmus+ support for living costs for countries in group 2 for 30 days would be: € 1,438.
Example Erasmus+ Living Cost Calculation for Countries In Group 3:
Slovenia is a popular group 3 destination. For a participant staying 30 days in a group 3 destination, Erasmus+ funding for living costs would be calculated as follows:
€ 48 x for the first 14 days = € 672
plus
€ 34 x for an additional 16 days = €544
€ 672 + € 544 = € 1,216
The Erasmus+ support for living costs for countries in group 3 (low cost of living) for 30 days would be: €1,216.
Our Tip: As many Western nations are in group 1 and 2, their living costs vary depending on if you send your participants to a major city or a smaller city. Therefore, you should consider planning your Erasmus+ project in a smaller city away from tourist hot spots. That way you will get the same amount of funding even though the living costs in this specific smaller destination might be low.

The costs for participants with special needs is fully covered by Erasmus+ funding, including travel costs for a required accompanying person. Participants from disadvantaged backgrounds will receive additional funding, in case the travel costs are higher than the funding received in category 2.
