For Postgraduates Looking to Take on a Masters or Other Equivalent
If you want to further your studies through an international programme, you’ll need a qualification equivalent to a UK undergraduate degree. The minimum standard is a 2:1 (or above). You’ll also need the following attributes (and to display these too):
Your further education does not need to be in the same subject area necessarily. For a PhD or MRes (Master’s in Research, programmes may require more extensive qualifications – especially if your first degree is unrelated. For a Doctorate, you might need a Master’s degree.
Some course might require an entrance test and if you’re a PhD student, you’ll need to submit a research proposal. To ensure that you fit the requirements, contact the course provider for more information,
Demonstrating Proficiency in English
You will need a certain standard of English, and you might be asked to take a SELT (Secure English Language Test), especially if you need a student visa. There are other tests that are widely accepted too, the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), Trinity ISE (Integrated Skills in English exam), PTE (Pearson Language Test), TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), Cambridge Assessment English C1 (advanced) and C2 Proficiency.
Applying for More Than One University
You can apply for more than one university, and it is best to do so, as you’ll increase your chances of being accepted at one. You might even be able to specify a second course as your backup, if you wish to do so, which will also increase your chances of success.
How to Increase the Chance of Acceptance
You need to take time to write an excellent application. Write it and check it, then re-read it a few times to make sure it’s well-written and you haven’t left anything else. Get someone else to give it a read through as well, as you might miss important information, another eye on your application could pick up errors too. Do also look for a course that’s aligned with your skills, consider your personal needs and your university requirements before confirming your choices.
What are the Course Fees?
Depending on your course, your grant should cover your course fees, depending on the course you’re planning to do, check what’s covered for your specific needs. Some courses are very expensive.
How to Choose the Right University and Course
Choose your desired university and course based on where you live, the course you want to do and the reputation of the university. Look at league tables and statistics to help you decide on the right place for you.
